I would love to listen to your manvyala. I like that song a lot. Maybe in the future someday......

Yes! I too was keenly looking for the combination of songs for quite sometime. 7 out of 14 compositions were from the Trinity. And famous numbers at that.

The reason why I am talking about the selection of songs is last year, after your concert at Keyes High School, the review was not up to my expectations. I called the Journalist and spoke to her. She mentioned to me that Gayathri Girish did not catch the pulse of the audience. And she sang rare songs. Maybe true, maybe not.

But when I looked at the long list of songs in the concerts during Music season, I thought I could bring this to your notice. Maybe, you could pick 2 rare songs per concert. Otherwise, one may drive away the audience!!! That is a dangerous trend. It hurts me when much less talented people get better recognition only on the basis of the choice of songs.

Having said that, it has to be admitted that Hyderabad public is not that knowledgeable as Madras audience. They expect Nagumomu or Endaro Mahanu bhavulu or Vatapi ganapatim bhaje or Tyagaraja Krithis which were sung in Films:-) like Raa Raa Maa Inti daaka, Nee Daya Rada, Sree Rama Jaya Rama, Mana Sanchara Re, Bala kanamaya.

As mentioned earlier, T. K. Govinda Rao Sir used to tell me Tyagaraja stands Number 1, then Shyama Sastry and then Muttuswamy Deekshitar. Muttuswamy Deekshitar is behind only because Sanskrit is not a spoken language. I know Muttuswamy Deekshitar's compositions are deeply into "deep" philosophy:-) Some Sanskrit pandits were stunned to tell me the meanings of some songs. I am told Papanasam Shivan is Tamil Tyagaraja.

Anyway, I wanted to convey this message regarding your selection of songs for sometime.

Thanks for patiently reading:-)

I hope you sang Bhavaabdi Tarani this time in Kanaka Shaila. Hopefully, much slowly too:-) This Bhavabdi Taranamu comes in the song Broche vaarevare (Sri Ranjani). Bhavaabdi is Samsara Sagaram.

Thanks,
Murali
