This concert was on the day prior to Tiruvannamalai Karthigai Deepam, hence I chose to include Vaananai and Naadhavindhu Kalaadhi in my list that day.

It was a working day, Wednesday afternoon 4.30 p.m. and a ticketed concert; the audience turn out was good.

• The concert started off with a Varnam
• ‘Nannu brova nee kintha thaamasamaa’ in Abhogi held the rasikas in an upright posture. The raga rendition session was very soothing. One might say that the raga itself has that characteristic.
• Neelambari- ‘Amba Neelaaya thakshi’ – Dikshithar. The lyrical beauty was well brought out with more number of repetitions but each time emoted differently, with utmost involvement. Accompanists played within limits so as to enrich the raga and lyrical beauty. Whatever I try to express, I know, I will fail miserably. One should have been there just to experience it. Heart rejoiced in peace.

The songs given below followed:

• Saravana bhava guhane shanmugane – Kannada – Sivan
• Hiranmayeem Lakshmeem sadha bhajaamee – Lalita – Dikshitar, a difficult raga rendered effortlessly and the amount of home work done showed
• Sarasa saama dhana bedha dhanda – Kapinarayani – Thiyagarajar, saw many rasikas nodding their heads through the piece, in appreciation
• Vaananai madhi soodiya mainthanai – Keeravani - Thevaram
• Main piece was in Poorvi kalyani (Remember, Ilaiyaraja’s ‘ Neelak kuyilgal ennoduthan pan paadudho?) Superb rendition of raga alapanai and reply by violin.
• Parama Paavana Rama… Poochi. ‘Thani’ was played together to keep up time.
• Kaliyuga varadhan kan kanda… , as you know, has a mass appeal in general. It was more appealing when sung by GG that day.
• En veettu thottathil poovellam kettuppaar; Sorry, it was ‘Naadha vindhu kalaa dhee namoh namah’ nicely rendered to end with.

The list seems to be lengthy, right ? But, believe me, it was only a two hour-10 min concert and GG packed it with 10 pieces
