Was a really fine Thodi Neraval yesterday..was a really nice composition. I really wished it carried on for some more time.

A question for Smt Gayathri Girish regarding the archival project on
naalayira divya prabandham. Were the pasurams set to music by the Azwars or Naathamuni when he found them in the 10th century? Or are they being set to music by contemporary musicans? This would help a research project of mine.
I appreciate an answer from you.
My e-mail id is poorniman@yahoo.com
Thank you

Hi,
Unlike the Panns that are prevalent for Tevaram hymns, there are no references currently available on the Panns that were initially used for rendering the Pasurams.
"தாளம் வழங்கித் தமிழ் மறை இன்னிசைத் தந்த வள்ளல்" Naathamuni set the Prabandhams to music and Talam. These are found in the Arayar Sevai, which is prevalent only in Srirangam, Azhwartirunagari and Srivilliputthur.
But even these tunes are hardly used these days and the Pasurams that we sing now have been tuned by contemporary musicians.
Please do let me know if you have any further clarifications - I would be glad to help.
Gayathri
